Borrowing
Using the online catalogue
All the items we have available to loan out from the Library are displayed in the Library’s online catalogue. You can browse popular selections and booklists, do a basic search, or perform a detailed advanced search for the items that you are looking for.
Loan periods
- 21 days for books, audiobooks, magazines, Library of Things items, DVDs, board games, video games
- 28 days for radon detector
- 7 days for Cultural Passes
Renewing
We automatically renew items for you! You will receive an email notification three days prior to the due date with a reminder. If there are no holds on your materials, they will automatically be renewed for you on the due date – another email will follow on the due date informing whether your items were renewed or are due back.
If you would like to renew materials before the due date, you can use your online library account, or contact us by phone or email to renew items for you.
- Items can be renewed twice (whether by patron or auto-renewal) unless they are on hold for another person.
- We are a fine free library! You won’t be charged for late items, but we encourage returning on time as many items are on hold for the next person.
- Interlibrary Loan items cannot be renewed.
Holds
Placing holds
You can place a hold on an item by logging into our online catalogue. Simply search for the item, click “Place a Hold,” and confirm. Use your library barcode and password (typically the last four digits of your phone number) to log in.
Picking up holds
Once your hold is ready, you have 7 days to pick it up. Make sure your email spam filters are set to permit emails from “noreply-BSQ@catalogue.libraries.coop”.
Holds can be picked up from our holds room during our open hours via:
- The back exterior window (ring the bell for service).
- Inside the Library.
Once you have your item, you need to check it out, either at the self-checkout, holds room back window, or front desk.
Managing your holds
You can pause or cancel your holds whenever you want by signing into your online library account.
Other people picking up your holds
If you prefer or require someone else to pick up holds for you, please call or email the Library to let us know they are an approved designated person. Please remember, you are responsible for all items that are checked out with your library card.

Returns
Returns can be made at any time using the exterior book slot at the back of the Library building. You can also return items inside at the front desk during our open hours.
For oversized returns and Library of Things items, please return the item inside the building during our open hours.
